Gorgon -
Even though Medusa is the most well known of the gorgons a number of them appear in Greek mythology. With a name that means “dreadful” in Greek they are immortal and cannot be killed in any way other than decapitation. All gorgons have the ability to turn you to stone with a look and the snakes in their hair are highly venomous.
Their hair of snakes is the only constant in the description of a gorgon, there have been various descriptions and all of them have differences. Sometimes they are described as winged or having tusks or fangs. In most descriptions they have scales which are impossible to stab through.
Even with a name that means “dreadful” gorgons are actually protectors. They are usually guarding a person or an object. Any blood taken from the right side of a gorgon has the ability to bring the dead back to life, while the blood on their left side is poison. The image of a gorgon is used to ward off evil and is said to protect against the evil eye. A lock of their snake filled hair can protect you from attack.
